🕯️ Devlog #1 — The Birth of Whispering Halls
I’ve always wanted to create a horror experience that wasn’t just about jump scares, but about something psychological — something that gets under your skin.
That’s how Whispering Halls began.
The core idea came from exploring the concept of schizophrenia — not in a medical sense, but through a narrative lens. What does it feel like when you can’t trust your own senses? When the safety of your home slowly turns against you? That’s the atmosphere I want this game to capture.
🔹 Current Progress
Right now, the prototype features:
-
A sanity system where light, sound, and cursed objects affect the player’s mind.
-
A unique sanity UI, represented by a gradually opening, bloodshot eye.
-
Environmental triggers that increase madness — TVs, darkness, and scary objects that mess with your perception.
-
Post-processing effects that scale with sanity (the higher your insanity, the more distorted the world becomes).
🔹 What I’m Working On Next
-
Expanding sanity influences (different types of sound, interactive lights, hallucinations).
-
Creating more story-driven events (like waking up in different rooms without remembering).
-
Building a stronger atmosphere with ambient audio and subtle scares.
-
Preparing for a future Steam release, while keeping this itch.io version as a public prototype for feedback.
🔹 Why I’m Sharing Early
This game is still months away from being complete — but I wanted to start building a community now. Every comment, suggestion, and piece of feedback helps shape Whispering Halls into the game it’s meant to be.
If you try the prototype, thank you. You’re part of the journey already.
Let’s walk these halls together. 🕯️
